Theology and Science

A Modern Relation of Theology and Science Assisted by Emergence and Kenosis is an essay collection drawn from my work at the intersection of systematic theology, philosophy, and evolutionary biology. The volume asks how doctrines of creation, incarnation, and divine self-giving might be reframed if one takes seriously both emergent complexity in nature and the kenotic pattern at the heart of Christian faith.

The opening chapters trace key developments in the science-religion dialogue, clarifying how emergence theories challenge older, static pictures of the world. I then explore how classical doctrines-creation ex nihilo, providence, Christology, and pneumatology-can be rearticulated within a universe marked by layered causality, novelty, and open-ended processes. Central to this project is the conviction that God's power is most clearly revealed as self-emptying love rather than unilateral control.

Written for advanced students and scholars, the essays presuppose some familiarity with contemporary theology and philosophy of science, yet I have aimed for clarity rather than obscurity. Each chapter situates its argument within current literature, engages both supporters and critics, and ends with suggestions for further reading. Faculty can assign individual essays within courses on doctrine of God, theology and science, or comparative theology, while researchers will find constructive proposals that invite extension and critique.
